When the HRSG starts to ignite, the pressure and temperature rise to a certain point. Because the control valve bears the full differential pressure, the valve and the downstream pipeline will produce high noise and vibration. Therefore, flow limiting devices such as diffusers or silencers are usually installed downstream. This design provides a back pressure to the valve to limit the pressure drop and subsequent noise and vibration. It can also be used to reduce noise before leaving the system is introduced into the atmosphere. The control valve noise requirement is usually 85 dB.
